History Section
The library collection timeframe spans from early middle ages up to present day. The geographical area is largely defined by Italy and Germany, but also increasingly includes European issues and research on the Mediterranean area.
Core themes and specific collections:
- Italian regional and local history;
- History of the church in the middle ages and modern ages, including 126 volumes containing manuscripts from the period between the XVI and XVIII centuries, particularly concerning the papal diplomacy. Forty of these volumes, the so-called Minucciana, bring together the remains of the personal archives of the Archbishop of Zara, Minuccio Minucci (1551–1609), and are accessible in an online edition;
- The ancient collection (circa 9.000 volumes from before 1850) widely refers to Italian regional history and the history of the church;
- Formation of the national State and Kulturkampf in the XIX century;
- Nazi propaganda material largely made up of Goetheinstitut and Werner Hoppenstedt collections;
- Italian fascism, with the acquisition of the Duilio Susmel library (over 9.000 titles; the newspapers have been digitalised and are available in the library) and parts of the Giuseppe Bottai library, previous minister for corporations and education (circa 1.500 titles); the Susmel Collection is currently cataloged for the OPAC; you will find scans of the catologue cards of the part of the collection that is not yet online here:
